Career resources

[cross-posted from the Clemson PRSSA blog]
For those of you interested in finding a job or an internship (does that mean ALL?) here are some good online resources for learning how to navigate the job search process:
First, there’s Heather Huhman. You can follow Heather on twitter, read her column on Examiner.com and attend a live online [...]

The past week in student blog posts

Every week or so, I try to publish a selection of blog posts by other students in the class. Check out these posts from the previous week:

Cheerleaders for social media, Erin Martin
Social Media: Friend, not Foe, Shelley Addis
An inauguration of more than the president, Lauren Gaulin

And although she’s not in our class this semester, I [...]

Another PR example: Viral video done well

The website is run by Lauren Berger (@InternQueen on twitter). She writes advice about interviewing and finding internships on her I [...]

WordPress video tutorials – from WordPress!

Need help with anything WordPress, such as…

How to write a new post?
How to add categories and tags to your posts?
How to manage your sidebar and add different widgets (i.e. blogroll, categories, etc.)?

The great news is you no longer have to make do with Dr. V’s home-made video tutorials!
WordPress has just launched a series of video-tutorials [...]

Finding & telling the story

See this post by Chris Brogan (@chrisbrogan on twitter) about finding an angle for a story and telling a story about a product that’s been around for a while (in this example, Skype).
It’s great advice for PR people, keep it in mind for later in the semester when we will do these kinds of exercises.

Via hriefs on twitter, this article on Three words every PR pro should avoid in their news releases.
Must-read for students in our class, and let’s keep an eye out for these words this semester – and avoid using them!
